PURCHENA GATE / PUERTA DE PURCHENA
ENGLISH:
It is called Puerta de Purchena (Purchena Gate) because in the Muslim period, the ancient Pechina Gate, which was the main entrance to the city, was located in this area. Its name was changed by the Christians because of a terminological mistake. Urban expansion around Purchena Gate and Paseo de Almeria took place in the mid-XIX century. It is the busiest spot in the city and there are a lot of shops and banks in this area.
